Tom; Here's where I can pick a nit with John. The term of art is "attributable ownership interest" per the FCC. With public for-profit companies, attributable ownership interest is generally owning more than 3% of the voting shares and/or having a seat on the board of directors. An attributable ownership interest can also be a directorship or trusteeship of a non-profit or not-for-profit organization owning a broadcast station. (And, I'm glossing over Local Marketing Agreements and similar arrangements.) Sumner Redstone is Chairman of both Viacom and CBS, and there are other common directors. Most of the voting shares are held by persons and entities that have less than 5% ownership and have no votes on the board. Having an attributable interest mandates that one file an ownership statement with the FCC. As for the particulars, I lament that the FCC hasn't put the ownership section's files on-line, nor the affiliation agreements that were (when I was resident in DC) contained in the same office. So, the only public data online would come from http://edgar.sec.gov. I can say that the ownership section's paper files are much easier to use than any file at the SEC. I had not been keeping up on this since the split. Can you say what portion of CBS and Viacom are owned or controlled by National Amusements? - Tom John Shutt wrote: > John, > > You need to do a bit of research about your beliefs. > > After the CBS/Viacom split, CBS was given Showtime.
