Subject: Even yet more Errata & Comments
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tonight's batch of bugs is rather short, I'm afraid: I blame all the hard work
that's clearly already gone into the errata-fixing!
0) Do you have any preference for how I should link to the affected passages? I
am just usingthe URL to the page I saw it on, but if it's bugging you and you'd
rather the links in some other format, or just "Castle Death, Entry 234", just
let me know :)
1) http://www.projectaon.org/en/xhtml/lw/06tkot/sect17.htm
There's no option here for people who have 1 or 0 gold, even those who have
already been thrown out for having no gold. Possibly worth a footnote? There's
a list elsewhere of stuff that a gambler would buy off you - possibly repeat
that here, and add "while you must pay if you can, if you can't, you can assume
that the barman takes pity on you and lets you sleep on the floor of the
dorm/captain pays/you sneak in with your basic Kai skills/rocks fall, everyone
dies" ...or somesuch.
2) http://www.projectaon.org/en/xhtml/lw/06tkot/sect158.htm
"Together with the Silver Key that Gwynian gave you (mark this as a Special
Item that you keep in your pocket),"
That's the second silver key in my Special Items. Can't remember where I got
the first, though. Possibly they should have different names? Or are they
deliberately interchangeable?(In truth, I believe this silver key is an
unavoidable item, and all roads lead through this passage, in which case this
is a moot point anyway)
3) Also, the Brass whistle: backpack item? It doesn't say, so I must assume so.
Though this goes back to the last brass whistle I picked up, from around
someone's neck, which was arguably a special item, and which you've now stated
definitely is one in a footnote. I'm assuming that in this case, they're
deliberately named the same, so that you have two ways of getting the item, so
maybe they're carried the same way?
4) http://www.projectaon.org/en/xhtml/lw/06tkot/sect2.htm
If you want to swig one of the health-giving potions then and there, I'd guess
you don't need to discard a backpack item for it? Probably not worth a
footnote, more a handbooky thing. I should read that handbook, it'll mean I'll
ask fewer stupid questions....
4a) (because I inserted it and am too lazy to renumber)
http://www.projectaon.org/en/xhtml-simple/lw/06tkot.htm#sect209
You discard your bow here. After the combat there's no mention of picking it up
again. I assume "discard" is just colourful language? Or should a footnote be
added when you kill it?
5) http://www.projectaon.org/en/xhtml/lw/07cd/equipmnt.htm
"Quiver (Special Items) This contains six Arrows. Tick them off as they are
used."
Can the arrows be taken and added to your running total? I assume yes, but
there's a gamebalance issue there. Possibly cover in the handbook under Arrow?
[Edit: ah, it's under "Quiver": and quivers carry only 6 arrows, but you can
carry multiple quivers... weird.]
7) http://www.projectaon.org/en/xhtml/lw/07cd/errata.htm
"Replaced 'knowledge mastery' with 'knowledge that mastery'."
This (and likely a few others in this paragraph) should probably be in the
following paragraph, since they refer to changes made in the Disciplines page,
not the Game Rules page.
8) You were pondering how to increase the visibility of the handbook.
Mentioning it where you mention the errata would probably help: you mention the
errata a few times in the intro to each book, but never mention the handbook,
which is arguably more useful.
On the other hand, the handbook is basically a list of words that have further
information available for them. To me, that screams "use it as a glossary":
that is, in the HTML versions, in the first occurrance of any of those words in
a section, have a span with onclick JS, a dotted bottom border, and have the
onclick open a div with the definition just above/below the word, and
onmouseoff close that div. Then nobody needs to read through a whole dictionary
of terms just to find out that their rope is really meant to only take one
backpack slot, say. They can just click on "Rope" and find out. As a bonus, a
cookie can be stored to state whether they want to see glossary terms
underlined: the dashed-border style would be applied at runtime by javascript,
on checking the cookie value. Dunno where they'd *set* that preference, though.
Maybe a checkbox on each glossary div: "[X] Show glossary items (you can turn
this back on at...)"
To me, that seems more reasonable than expecting people to read a dictionary,
especially because the dictionary will only ever grow larger.
9) http://www.projectaon.org/en/ReadersHandbook/TopicalA
 "Ammo Pouch" handbook entry is empty.
10) http://www.projectaon.org/en/ReadersHandbook/TopicalB
Bronin Vest: I don't get the maths here. It states that the vest is +3CS +1E. A
PLW is +0CS +2E. And yet it says combined, they are +3CS +4E. Same figures are
given on the Padded Leather Waistcoat page.
11) It occurs to me that for ease of reading through, the handbook could do
with an alphabet index at the bottom of the page, too...
12) http://www.projectaon.org/en/ReadersHandbook/TopicalK
"conjunction wil all"
13) http://www.projectaon.org/en/ReadersHandbook/TopicalL
"This uncommon herb is provides"
14) http://www.projectaon.org/en/ReadersHandbook/TopicalS#Ftn
"Bracers gives you" the bracers paragraph mixes talking about it/them as a
singular (at the start) and plural (at the end).
15) http://www.projectaon.org/en/ReadersHandbook/TopicalT
In one of the books, you could lose the use of your arm, if I remember right...
can't remember how, can't remember which book. Was it where it got diseased? Or
was is a wound in a battle? I forget, I'm sorry. But if my memory isn't failing
me, it might be worth adding a footnote where it happens to mention that 2H
weapons (and bows?) will be unusable.
16) http://www.projectaon.org/en/ReadersHandbook/NewsletterExcerpts#lwcnss85
Possibly typos are from the original and left in deliberately, but:
"eight itmes hence"
"of Vashna' Taken from"
"when youbegin the"
"a wepon you"
"(a '0' = 1)" (might be deliberate, or might be a missing "0")
"would definately allow"
"journey-maning"
"especially usefull during"
"was ommitted from"
The more I play through these (and read the errata pages!) the more impressed I
am with your work here. Truly awesome work, and I'm glad that in my small way,
I can thank you by bughunting!
