Which is what KSC does as well, for the same reason: a classic flame
trench basically doesn't work for a low-lying coastal launch site. The
bottoms of the LC-39 "flame trenches" are actually level with the
surrounding ground. They're not dug down; rather, the surrounding pad
foundation was built up around them.
