Hi,
to get back to the original question, i am currently staying in IIT and
would appreciate some details on how to tunnel over http to access IRC
Follow this,
1) Go to www.your-freedom.net
2) Register a free account and download their java client.
3) Run the java client, enter your login details, and configure proxy to
hproxy.iitm.ac.in and port 3128 (i'm assuming you're living in the hostel
zone).
4) Select the bit which says "Supports CONNECT" (this will make the client
connect to the third-party freedom server using connect on port 443 -
which will be a lot faster than the usual method: simulating a constant
connection by issuing POST requests at regular intervals).
5) Fire up your irc client, and set it up to use the SOCKS proxy running
on 127.0.0.1 port 1080.
6) Say hello to the folks at freenode :)
Optionally, connect directly to the local insti irc server (which I run on
my machine, and which currently has a grand total of *gasp* 12 users) on
10.94.4.78, port 6667 (my nick's golu, if you want to chat).
Hope this helps,
