GPL is not meant for logos - it is for software
Logos are software. That is the Debian view as well --
computer
related stuff is either hardware, software, or wetware. Clearly,
logos
are represented on computer hard drives as zeros and ones, and are,
tus, software.
not so. It so happens that this logo was designed using a computer.
It could as well have been designed using paint and paper. And it
will be mostly distributed on paper, cloth and other materials. And
modifications made may not be made on the computer. Next you will be
saying that a building designed on a computer is software
Just as Debian makes software so good that other people are
tempted to use it for their products. Like canonical. Or Xandros.
they use the debian logo?
Having our creative products used by other people is what free
software is all about. Retain copyrights. Feed back improvements.
Use
our creative efforts for whatever you want, or need, to.
this doesnt apply to logos - and debian itself agrees.
