Just as people started buying FM radios "just to listen to regular radio." The point is, pretty soon they try AM again, and they don't like what they hear anymore. I enjoyed very much a recent visit to Best Buy, where some of their flat panel TVs were tuned to analog TV, for whatever reason. It was amazing. I pointed this out to my wife, where the image was just the same as we had put up with for some many decades, even in large screen TVs, and for some reason people used to buy these. What a great demo that was, unintentional as it might have been. Now it looked awful. People don't have to consciously say "I want HDTV." They simply begin to shun what starts looking bad to them, having been exposed to better technology.
