I have spoken with their technical support team before. Just asked about
the laptop as people have already gone that route, but I can call them, no
problem.
Thanks for the reminder.

Hi Carol
If you have any questions about digiTV from nebula, why not give their technical support team a call on:
01689.897090
They are the most approachable people I've ever come across and very
knowledgeable about their product. You will probably get through immediately
to either Kash or Alison, who will give you the minimum specification for a
laptop. However, I would add that the processor speed etc., is secondary to
having the USB port giving enough power to the device, and I would
definitely use a powered USB hub to run the module from a laptop.
I would also recommend that you upgrade to version 3.5.21 as soon as you can
as it is the most stable of the beta releases, which as far as I can
determine has only one small bug which appears on one of my computers but
not the other, however, I believe this has already been addressed in the
forthcoming release of beta 22.
Finally, I suggest you get your aerial engineer to inspect your aerial installation before buying the digiTV as this will set your mind at rest about that side of things when setting up the system. You won't then spend hours puzzling over why you can get BBC 1 but not world service when actually that particular multiplex is transmitting in low power in your area.
Its like so many things in life, if you get the basics right the rest is plain sailing. I for one couldn't do without my digiTV systems and cant remember the last time I had a problem with it.
Regards
Steve Green

Steve,
I agree with you both about the PC being the best media centre and also about the Nebula card.
Do you have Nebula actually running on the laptop then, or just on the
system somewhere else in the house? I'm interested in what spec laptops
could cope with the Nebula card as I want to move all our media stuff to the
lounge and utilise the better speakers in there.

Hi Ray,
We have a PC in the living room, and it is our complete Media Centre. We
play DVDS, CDS, MP3, and most other kinds of media on it. It saves having
a
separate DVD player, CD player, Video Recorder, etc. Because of Nebula,
we
can record accessibly, as you can with this stand-alone Media Centre, but
we
do get pictures. This means I can burn DVDs for my sister and parents, if
I
want to. Finally, it is networked wirelessly to our PCs upstairs, so I
have
about 300gb of storage available to it, which means I can store my
complete
CD collection in one place.
Now that you can buy quiet PCs, or even a laptop, which I use in the
living
room, a PC doesn't have to stick out like a sore thumb, where furniture is
concerned. I personally think a PC is the best Media Centre there is,
even
if you don't have the Media Centre version of Windows.

Graham,
But who wants or has a PC in the living room?
Mine is up here in a converted bedroom and I would prefer to sit with my wide downstairs!

yes, that price is absolutely unjustifiable given the amount of information available on the internet. I can't see who would possibly want to pay this apart maybe from someone who has recently lost their site who is quite well off. You could get a very well specified desktop computer for this price.
It may be appropriate for organisations such as schools local societies for the blind or libraries so people can look up television related information. A lot for one person to justify though.
Cheers
Graham

Not quite everyone has kept quiet. On this page at the Audio Description Newsletter the price is said to be £850. I'll have to sell my second yacht yet again!

Hi
For some reason, everyone seems to be keeping very quiet about the price
of this hing. It's almost the first link on the Portset website but
here
again, no mention of price. Maybe we'll find out at Sight Village this
year?
