The Casull 454 cal. revolver pistol runs 60KSI chamber pressure. If you
forget to withdraw your thumb from the side of the revolver the blow by
will cut your thumb off.
Well we ran 3000 psi with Galcite and thought nothing about it, that was
what it was so we used motor cases that could handle that pressure,
the aforementioned 4130 high carbon steel with a TS of 125 KSI, and that
wasn't fully heat treated which would get to 180 KSI
High performance wasn't the goal, just reliably get over 50KFt which we did
for many years. The high [performance days would come later which they did
with Ray Goodson entering the picture with his nozzleless rockets, 3", 4"
and 5".

art" solid motor that ran at 10K psi. He didn't provide many details.

I'm no engineer, but look at a typical rifle round. And how mucg metal is
needed to contain that relatively small amount of powder at these
pressures. I love the idea of pushing higher pressures, a line of
experimenting I wanted to pursue at one time. I still have this amazing
hunk of metal Terry Spath made for me to start that sort of work. It would
be interesting, difficult, and dangerous.
