The main object of a Free Software User Group in a College would be to
introduce strudents to the Gnu/Linux Operating System, Free Software
Applications, insights into how Free Software projects are created,
maintained and distributed. An understanding of these would make the
student a free software user, and may be encourage him/her to think of
a suitable final year project to fulfill both academic requirements,
and to exhibit skills learnt and acquired during the course.

The reason for having a LUG in the first place is the availability of
Free Software. Many colleges are using proprietary software at the
moment, and they pay for the licenses through their nose. Many are
migrating to installing Free Software on all their systems, and as
that happens, a FSUG is merely a natural requirement. The college
would save substantially on license fees, and besides, they have the
opportunity to teach better since free software comes with source
code.

and similar other questions and monetary benifits too come before the
authorities.
They must be knowing that:
Without LEarning there could be no Earning for professionals :)
FSUGs in colleges would mainly aid newbies to learn about free
software that would be of use for the rest of their life.
Iam sure that they wont allow if its just going be a
discussion and teaching LUG since they hate to work for free, without
any benifits.
That attitude suits unskilled labourers fine, but not professionals
who have a duty to encourage students to learn and acquire useful
skills and knowledge.
If this is about earning directly from out of a FSUG, then, probably
the College could be charging small monthly subscriptions for
memberships to cover incidental expenses, if the rules allow for it.
