Because the corporate guyz and HR are non-technical,
they _only_ see the marks. College students are
brainwashed into this trap.
As how an advisor is important to a PhD student, a
project manager is important to a developer in the
industry. One will learn only from a project manager
and it will help him/her build their career, not the
HR. From what I have seen so far, HR in India are
terrible, and software engineers don't get alone with
them?
We don't do just theory in the industry, its more of
real-time stuff.
The situation is worse in schools (especially state
board). When students say they have cut off of
297.blah blah, parents give sweets to the kids. WTF?
What have they really learnt? Has education taught
them to think? No. Just studying for exam sake and
vomiting in exams is not education. 6 months after the
exams, ask them to do E=mc2 derivation, they will not
be able to do it.
Even, with the source, most mature Free/Open Source
software (that
are usually bundled with distro's) are not very good
teaching tools,
I have to disagree. One of the best things about FLOSS
is the documentation. There are also lot of ways you
can get help from the community (mailing lists,
forums, IRC, google.com, ...).
