My openions doesnt matter much there, so i need some kind of practical
example in this regard.

Linux-Advocacy HOWTO.
Back in 2002 I spent more than 4 months to get a base of 6 students
for backup. I also used this period to influence the college about the
advantages of Linux and others OSS products (like FreeBSD, etc).
Somehow they preferred to stay with Linux and the GNU base as it was
more userfriendly in their perspective. Also because of the hype from
the media.
I personally helped a whole department lab (EIE) to move onto Linux.
Gave them an environment they hadn't seen before (a simple NFS/NIS
network for whole of their department). Many were impressed. The heat
caught on. We introduced KLUG in Feb 2003. Students started coming in.
We had classes. We helped people move to Linux by being support
personnel.
And then it was not 'me' anymore. There were bunch of people who were
constantly using Linux. They were also willing to help others get used
to Linux which was misconceived as something difficult to use. To be
more precise, I helped a few of my class mates avoid using Win32 right
from second year so they are kind of uneasy when confronted with
Win32.
We conducted seminars, awareness programmes, quizzes, we celebrate
birthday of Linux kernel, etc.
To say the least - it was a process. It's not easy to impress the
management in a couple of hours, or even a day about the advantages of
OSS. If they are so aloof from the happenings of the IT industry, they
might be really hesitant for changes.
You might want to try going through Linux-Advocacy HOWTO. It tries to
help you in situations such as these.
