Sure. But, it is no excuse for students not to take
the initiative and learn. We can only bring the horse
to the pond, can't force it to drink the water. Even
if the students are given the best lectures, and if
they don't open up their minds and listen, there isn't
much one can do.
Even HR training will be on group dynamics, group
games, blah blah blah. If it has to be technical, they
will ask the campus college staff themselves to teach.
So, its not going to be any different from what
students have studied (as opposed to learning).
Maybe I phrased it wrong, but.. here is what I tried
to say..
I said mature tools, for eg, GCC is a really bad
place to learn

kernel 2.6.12 is a bad place to
start learning about
"OS scheduling algorithms"(maybe 0.0.1, but not 2.6)
It doesn't have to be 2.6.12. It can be any 2.6
kernel.
Operating systems is an ocean by itself. There are
definitely a lot of dependent concepts and components
to it. Nobody will straight away ask you to take the
course. That is why students are first introduced to
algorithms, complexity, data structures, computer
systems, microprocessors and then operating systems.
You build on the former.

Nobody is going to teach you in the industry. There is
a lot of competition. The ability to read RFCs and
specifications, comprehend them and implement them is
important. This methodology must start from colleges.
Unfortunately, students are spoon-fed and they are not
made to use their brain cells.
