protocol... AFAIK, IMAP has very little overhead... not that informed
about POP though...
All web-based email systems have the potential to be on the left of
IMAP. This is because of the way email treats attachments. Any
non-text/* attachment (or rather, anything that doesn't fit into 7-bit
ASCII) is encoded in some way - usually MIME. MIME increases the size
of the attachment by about 33%, which is what you save with a decent
web-based mailing system.
In case of Yahoo/Hotmail etc., the junk they have on their web UI more
than offsets this saving, in my opinion :)
