Funny, isn't it?
Please keep your personal attacks offline to the list please. Though
we welcome sound counter arguments, we do not want a personal attack
to take place,
I think you should distinguish between a personal attack and a
legitimate criticism. He has not attacked me personaly. He has
questioned my credentials to make pronouncements of web programming,
and his question is based on a review of my status/capabilities as
web programmer. If I told Tendulkar that he doesnt know how to bat,
he is quite legitimate in asking me how many runs I have scored in
test cricket.
The question is: what comprises a good website? If good means more
flash, more popups, more scrolling, more sexy widgets, more fancy
menus - then the average VB.net guy would beat me hands down. But if
it means standards compliance, that is another thing.
It is well known that there are two standards in the world - one,
standards set by bodies like w3c and accepted world wide and, two,
standards set by microsoft and forced down the throats of users world
wide. Any non-VB programmer knows that website design is done in two
phases - first phase is to build a standards compliant site, second
phase is to tweak the site to work with IE without breaking the
standards too much.
My contention is, apart from all it's other defects, VB.net is biased
to produce code that complies only with microsoft's standards and the
average VB.net programmer is totally unaware that such things as
standards exist and as such, incapable of producing a good website.
My code is available - I dont say it is fully standards compliant,
but I am getting there. As mentioned before, I welcome criticisms of it.
