Most members of this list (at least the vociferous ones) have the
view : staff is no good and we will reach out only to students. Much
as I disagree with this*, what i consider dogmatic, view , I have not
intention of starting a flame war or discussion how to correct the
situation -- especially from staff end. [* in my short stint in a
college, i could get to know what travails the teachers go through,
especially the ones who want to do something worthwhile]
However, I request the members to consider one point : while the
students are transient, the staff provide a semblance of continuity.
Wouldn't you consider Kumarans and Benedicts have made the existence
and escalation of FOSS their colleges? Sudhan brought Andal Alagar
College into FOSS fold. Once he left, the flame was dying down. Now
the new set of lecturers are interested and we have to help them out.
Of course, Sudhan has lit the flame in the new environment he is in.
Hence some attention have to be given to them. As Bhaskar does, giving
the names of staff in charge and also the HoD in the reports on
workshops/installations will make them feel more committed. Will try
from NRCFOSS end to keep the FOSS active colleges name in the
limelight. Sathyakaam and many FOSS members are doing it in different
ways.
Re Shakthi's suggestion, can keep the slides/presentations on ILUG
portals and also NRCFOSS portal. Shrini and Raman can suggest to Prof
CNK that Anna University site could hold the materials too. Period
workshops will help, but will have to coax the colleges / Anna Univ to
organize them.
I fully agree with the sentiment that the LUG/FOSS volunteers will be
sought out to do the training and other dog works, with the staff
"apparantly" doing nothing. I hope the FOSS enabled staff members in
this list will help out to volunteer and expand the "volunteer" group
by involving their colleagues and interested students.
