Hellow Geoff,
Thanks for all the advice! I turned off auto forms mode and pretty much
worked from there really. I've already sinked my iphone with the computer,
so I should now be able to go through my iphone and download some
application.
Anyone got any suggestions for good, preferably free aps to try?
Thanks so much!
Harmony.
*happy*

hi there.

Do not think me rude, but I'm not sure if your first name is harmony or
Neil, so I'll circumnavigate that one by not using either! <he he!>

well, yes I do have ideas, but they are extree'ee'ee'eemely messy ones, and
not the simple straight ahead solution I know you'll desire, prefer, and
fervently wish for!

first of all, I regret to have to tell you,
that even if you succeed in registering your account with the latest version
of ITunes 9,
which I know apple will probably insist that you'll need to do the funkiest
connectivity things with your IPhone, whether that's correct or not would of
course depend on the specific things your wanting to do, but, I can tell you
right now, that if after reading this, you are able to setup/register your
account with ITunes with version 9 independently,
which won't be easy I can tell you, but will possibly,
be remotely dooable with persistence, patience and a lot of fiddling around,
or if you can snaffle sighted help to do so, by far the easiest and simplest
way in my view at this point,
so far as my testings here are concerned,
even if you can do that, apple have well and truly flat out broken,
blatently disabled, any accessible keyboard driven previewing and
purchasing, of
music at least, from the ITunes store, in all itunes versions 9x, that I've
been able to determine!
I don't know if that includes apps or not though.

Version 8.2.1 is the lateest version which provides keyboard accessible
navigating, previewing and purchasing of music at least, using the f6 key to
navigate the various ITunes panes, and to the most important list view pane,
which provided upDown arrow navigation, enter to preview tunes etc, and the
applications/context menu key, to provide the menu, from which the option,
"Buy or get currently selected songs table item,"
could be chosen, by hitting enter on it etc.

this version can be found here:

or at least it could:

this previously accessible method of purchasing/previewing, seems however,
to me, to be totally broken in ITunes 9. they've just disabled f6 even
moving to that listView at all, sighted people tell me it's visible on the
screen, but I couldn't even read any of the text supposedly visible to them
in that list view, with the jawsCursor any more! Nor does it seem possible
any more to read *any* of the previously visible information in the ITunes
store itself, with the jawsCursor.
that used to also be visible to us with jaws cursor
in previous versions of ITunes, so you could at least stumble around and
click on things if you had to. But I can no longer even do that with ITunes
version 9 any more.

it's not a happy story!

a few questions I think before I go much further then, given the above:

1. How keen/dedicated are you towards achieving this.
2. would you say your a patient person with computers?
3. what would you say your familiarization with use of jawsCursor is like,
and would you say you have a high frustration tolerance level
with stumbling around on computers?
<grin.>
4. can you snaffle any sighted help easily?

ok, just testing creating a new account here with the combo you have, of
itunes 9.0.2.25, and jaws11.
I'll tell you here, if you are persistent, that the secret I think I've
discovered with filling in forms on this puppy,
is, ... ok, deep breath here.
first of all, disable autoForms mode, in verbosity menu, so jaws11 behaves
like older jaws versions, where you had to hit enter to turn on forms mode,
and jaws would say, forms mode on etc.

second, in Itunes, There's not what we'd consider normative virtual cursor
and realWorld cursor
corelation, between what your hearing as you navigate with arrows, and what
Itunes itself actually thinks has focus.
Meaning, unlike on normal webPages, They don't track each other.
in other words, if you hit f6 to get to the virtual cursor type pane, and
you arrow
around, as you naturally would in virtual cursor land, to read all the
surrounding forms labels, and what it's asking you to do, e.g. type your
email address as apple ID, type your passWord, verify your passWord, make up
a question to help them with IDentity,
type your answer to that question,
Ehnter your date of birth to help us verify, with Day and month list Boxes,
then checkboxes for Would you like to recieve the following via email,
new releases and additions to the ITunes store CheckBox,
News, software updates, special offers etc checkbox,
with the Go back, cancel, and continue buttons at the bottom,

so, if you get to a place where you can read all that with your virtual
cursor arrows,
and so you try and start to fill in this form and arrow down to the first
edit box from the top which you see a label for, called Email address, and
hit enter there, jaws wil indeed say, Forms mode on, but, as you discovered,
it won't let you type anything there, because, ITunes hasn't immediately
brought focus to that edit box and enabled normal application interaction,
as you'd expect it to.
in other words, you haven't actually tabbed to the edit box.
That's what you gotta do all the time n this puppy, tab to things rather
than arrowing to them in virtual pc cursor land.

Basically the major deal with this is, you've got to tab to each edit box,
without bothering about hitting enter to turn on forms mode, because iTunes
under jaws anyway, automatically gives you typeable edit boxes, without
doing that, but, you have to tab to them first.
and of course when you do that, to demonstrate it's ready to recieve text,
you can hit numPad Plus, and it should say, "PC Cursor," rather than
"virtual Pc cursor," which it will say, if your in virtual pc land.

But, of course, this means, that you can't just flip out of forms mode, back
into virtual cursor land again, to try and read around your area, as you
normally would, to get a sense of what your supposed to do next, in between
each form field.
it won't allow you. it'll stay "stuck," in it's own version of forms mode.
it'll recieve text in that edit box now, but, you won't be able to arrow
anywhere up or down out of that, because your in the ITunes forced kind of
forms mode, or
direct interactivity with the application mode,
etc.

see what I mean when I say it's reeeally tricky? and we haven't got the half
of it yet!

ok so you now tab to each edit box, and fill them in as some of the prompts
will at least now identify partially what they are for. i.e.
1. email address as apple ID,
2. passWord,
3. Verify password,
etc.
now you can try and route jawsCursor to pc cursor, but, you wil find a whole
bunch of interwoven and confused information there, but at least the account
registration pane is visible to jawsCursor. so it's quite hard with that, to
figure out what goes where, if you get stuck.
now if you tab to a place where you hear, a number like,1, that means your
not in an edit box, and, you will have been returned to the virtual Pc
cursor mode, so you can once again use your arrows to explore the page if
you need to, but be aware that in this mode, you may not be able to read
information, that you've actually typed into your edit boxes above. don't
freek out at that. if you wanna confirm them, shiftTab back to each one, and
hit readCurrent line to checkem.
turning on SayHighlightedText for ScreenEcho, with insert+s, to the point
where it says, "highlighted," mayh also help to more automatically read some
edit box text. screen echo is set to none by default in the Jaws Config for
ITunes eh.

ok. so the next edit box is the question you should make up, to help them
identify you. jaws should say Question edit.
so you can type that there, then tab to next edit box, which should identify
as, "answer edit," and type the answer.

ok so next, is the slightly trickier bit.
jaws might just say, 1." if you hit jawsKey+UpArrow, to read current line,
you'll hear what they want you to do here. it's actually a day list box, to
enter your date of birth. but, to make it actually work with arrow keys,
you've got to turn off virtual cursor at this point, with insert+zed.
because unlike the edit boxes, it's not smart enough to do this for you, to
enable list box arrow navigation.
so, hit insert+zed, to turn off the virtual cursor temporarily. now, this,
day, listbox, should actually change as you hit arrow keys, but of course
you won't hear the changes as your making them. you'll have to hit
ReadCurrent line, to hear what your up to at any given point, to confirm
what your entering is correct.
. home and end do also work to jump to 1 to 31 in this listBox.

then tab again to the next Month list Box. this is more easily identified
because jaws should say, "january," which is the first month selected. same
deal. use arrows to change, and readCurrentLine to verify.

lastly on that first page, there's two more check boxes, which spaceBar
should work to alter, about special offers and junk to recieve via email.
then some go back, cancel and continue buttons.

then you get your payment information stuff. again, you can explore the
page with virtual cursor arrows, before you begin tabbing to things, but you
won't be able to just hit enter to start editing anything here, like your
card number etc. you have to tab to them, then don't hit enter, just start
typing them. ituens should except them.
the expiration dates for your card, are the same type of listBoxes as the
Birthday month on previous page. you must turn off virtual Cursor with
insert+zed, then navigate these with arrows.
then turn it back on again, to do the rest of the page of edit boxes. you
don't need to enter anything into the edit box where it says, "code," or
title, just fill in your first name last name address etc, all those edit
boxes, should speak their labels relatively intuitively as you tab through
this.

oh yeah. also, if you take too long, you might get a "your session has timed
out! please gry your operation from the beginning!" and that wil no doubt
bring you great joy! hahahahaha. not!

All the best with that eh.
let us know if your successful. but, if you really wanna actually be able to
indepednently buy anything, if itunes 8 will do what you need with your
IPhone, I'd heartily recommend, after you've registered your account as
above, because all that applies to ITunes 9, not 8, uninstalling 9, and
installing 8.2.1. or installing it perhaps on another user profile under
windows, if it'll let you do that. so you can maybe actually buy things.

all the best with this and please let me know if your successful at
following this rediculousness!
