On my last job back in Gainesville I was almost starting to drink the
cool aid that Apple was becoming more open and now went along with
standards. But I was then developing the Florical asset management
product and had to work with an Orlando TV station using Apples OSX
servers. Those servers would NOT follow the FTP standard we used to
communicate with them. After numerous calls to Apple support we were
told there was indeed a parameter change that would enable the needed
FTP commands but the customer would have to have a $1000+ support
contract to be told what it was.

All this went on for a couple months until we convinced the customer to
just install one of the many free FTP servers software available. The
problem was well known and discussed on the net and that is what all the
other folks have eventually had to do. This was all quite annoying and
it will be awhile before I voluntarily consider Apple products again.
