It will be interesting to see what new models of VCR's and other TV recorders are sold after March 1. It's hard to believe these categories will just disappear from the market. But they have to start having ATSC tuners in them, and most likely would then also tune QAM if they have any sense.

VHS IS DEAD.

Quantegy just announced that they are stopping production of videotape...

Again.

There won't be anyone to bail them out this time.

So recorders will be either hard disk based or writable DVD based.

Ther will however be a continuing market for existing VCRs.

I suspect the biggest hit will occur in combo TVs, many of which still had VCRs and or DVD players.

How long can they continue selling existing models? Is it only new models that need digital tuners or all newly manufactured stuff including newly produced units of old models? I can't remember.

I think the rules only apply to new units sold to retailers after March 1.
