No, I remembered wrong. Some manufacturers said they would advance the 1
July 2007 date to March 1, 2007, *if* they could get a break on the 1
March 2006 date for mid-size TVs. That's when the FCC said thanks, and
yes to 1 March 2006 and yes also to 1 March 2007.

Panasonic wanted DVD recorders exempted, figuring that no one wants to
record HDTV on a DVD, so might as well wait for HD-capable disk
recorders. The FCC didn't buy that either. (Nor do I.)
