'Jail' is correct, and more standard British English usage. Gaol is also correct, but somewhat obsolete, and less accessible to most readers: many will assume a typo for 'goal'. 'Gaol' is used elsewhere (eg end passage of book 3), but possibly better to change that to 'jail' for consistency, I think, than the other way round. << I would imagine Joe Dever deliberately used 'gaol' *because* of its archaic quality!
