Not a big surprise. As the authors note, flu shows the same behavior. Measles virus likewise has a dramatically shorter transmissible lifetime (airborne or on surfaces) in humid air.

This is a big reason, possibly *the* big reason, why colds, flu, etc. are mostly a winter problem.

It'll certainly help with this one, but just how much is harder to predict. Let's hope for an early spring and a hot, muggy summer! :-)
