Bill,

Coupla other tool-removal techniques I've seen suggested for broken-off taps.

If the tool is brittle carbon steel, you may be able to shatter it with a punch then remove the pieces.

Or, TIG-weld an extension onto the broken-off piece.

And getting a bit exotic, if the fastener and body are both NOT steel, you can use hot alum solution to dissolve the steel tool.

Never tried any of these myself.  Some web searching will reveal instructions from those who have.  Good luck!

I’ve tried drilling the broken hex but it’s tool steel....
