I’m skeptical a slot will work unless very deep and the fastener is
countersunk. Grinding on the hex bit is a good idea, I just need to
dislodge it and a hex driver will handle the rest.

I’ve tried drilling the broken hex but it’s tool steel....
Is it accessible enough to use an abrasive disk in a Dremel tool (or
something similar) to cut a slot across it, for use with a flathead
screwdriver bit to back out fastener and hex together?
