because it is against the list rules. So why should he obey the list
rules? After all we are all for freedom, so why insist that posts be
trimmed, comments interleaved, foul language avoided, smsposts
avoided, crossposts avoided? For that matter why protest when a
person spits on the sidewalk - everyone does it? You, being a senior
member of the community are in a far better position than me to
answer this.
Top posting is something most of us do (and hell, in a work context it is
something I do all the time, it just works easier - especially when the rest
of the people in the thread all top post). And you can read the entire reply
right at the top instead of having to scroll down through a lot of context.
Seen the mess a really long thread can get into, with quotes from multiple
different people? Try some long threads on usenet and see what they look
like, especially when some are using quotes, others pipes, still others
gnus/emacs' supercite mode name> for quotes ..
That prohibition basically started out back when everybody was on string and
tincan modem connections, slow uucp links etc. Not really "applicable" now.
Go after people who send one liners in sms-speak, with my blessings. This
objection to top posting is an anachronism, though.
