Oh, I have seen this mesg in RH6.2 :) Try
1. Manually reconfigure the X
2. Change the WM (GDM to KDM or XDM)

1, what is  meant by "/ect/X11/prefdm"?
Script that the default WM 
2, what is  meant by "/sbin/mingetty"?
