        Without context, it is mostly meaningless drivel.  It might work
 for people who rare,y deal with email, and either retain the context,
 or do not mind reading from bottom to the top.  I, for one, usually

Seen the mess a really long thread can get into, with quotes from
multiple different people?  Try some long threads on usenet and see
what they look like, especially when some are using quotes, others
pipes, still others gnus/emacs' supercite mode name> for quotes ..

        Which is why one trims.

That prohibition basically started out back when everybody was on
string and tincan modem connections, slow uucp links etc.  Not really
"applicable" now.


        Sure it is.  Lots of knowledgeable people will not respond to
 the rudeness implied in top posting; and thus the top poster will miss
 out on any help they could have offered.
