One's choice always depend on what he want to learn and availability of CD.
If he is looking at using GUI based desktop applications he should go
for FC3 or Mandrake 10.1 or Ubuntu. If trying to master command line
and server applications go for a server class installation of any
distro. If want to become a developer(C/C++/TCL/Python) use any distro
which offer these tools.
Only after learning the basics one can go for linuxfromscratch and such things.
If he have any book in hand to learn Linux use the distro which is
used in that book.
I studied linux at a training centre. It was no matter to me which
distro it is. They were using RHL 7.0. My goal of learning linux was
to know something that others dont know. But soon I fall in love with
linux. Then I bought PC and I was in a position to try out different
distros. First I installed Caldera Linux which I got along with
PCQuest. Then tried various RHL versions, Knoppix Live CD and Ubuntu.
Now I have two objective in learning and using Linux.
1) It should help my career.
2) For my personal joy of learning linux.
For the first objective I learn to use RedHat flavor (RHL and
mandrake). For the second I try out various Linux distros(and
different versions) of Linux distros.

Its a Redhat Series of OS. Most Corporates Use this type of Operating system.
if u r looking for a kind of job, they u can try out this.

debian is good for updation, working, development etc...
