his thesis is that there are 247 letters in the Tamil alphabet. 12
vowels, 18 consonants and the rest combination of vowels and
consonants - this is a little less than other indic languages as the
others have more consonants. He feels that one uniocde number be
allotted to each of these 247 letters. That is separate numbers for
ka kA ki kI ku kU etc. Currently only 20 numbers are allotted and
the rest are a combination of these. He further states that this
'mistake' is due to clubbing of Tamil with other indic languages. How
exactly Tamil is different is not elaborated.
