Herbmastery though, can be a specific extension of one aspect of the
healing/curing and tracking/pathmanship disciplines, because there
were many instances involving the recognition of different plants for
their properties in the books, but I see the relationship with Grey
Star's skills.

I think of it, in the traditional sense of a bard, as being a
combination of social and leadership skills. The large variety of
understudies with different personalities need to learn how to
interact with and manipulate the general population to their
advantage. LW was forced into the role of a
persuader/interrogator/leader/commander from day one and many of his
understudies may never find themselves in such a position while
training...
