hi carol, you have it spot on! Kevin - co-owner/moderator of the blind gamers discussion list contact me via email/msn: kream@xxxxxxxxxxxx ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol Pearson" <carol.pearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, August 17, 2005 11:38 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: lakelands catalogue Derek, As I understand it, if it's a personal issue about which someone is writing then they should respond to putting their letter of a personal nature (hospital appointment, money matters etc., etc.) into your preferred format. No, of course they don't do it! However, with a general matter, such as access to catalogues, I understand the requirement is only that they should be accessible. If I have this wrong, folks, please correct me. Sometimes I take an easy option, look on the WEB, find what I want and then, when appropriate, call the company to get them to place an order for me. You might want to do the same. -- Carol carol.pearson@xxxxxxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Derek Hornby Sent: Wednesday, August 17, 2005 11:00 AM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: lakelands catalogue Hi Kevin You said: "i'd also have to say i thought their reply reasonable. their catalogue does change a lot and as you contacted them via email, it's safe to assume you have access to the catalogue online" Not really, as not everyone that uses email is happy to use internet shopping sites. You also said: "don't forget the DDA states access to material in an *accessible* format. it doesn't specify it has to be a *preferred* format." If a company like an airline tells a blind person that is able to walk: "you must use this wheelchair" would you support that policy and if not why not?" So I take it you do agree that the blind persons has right to *prefer* to walk, even though it would be easier for the staff, if the wheel chair was used. Surly it's just same sort of logic when we discuss the rights and wrongs of Braille.
