Not exactly. I criticize Verizon for selecting to deploy FiOS exclusively, as 
their future for providing (how should I put it) fixed rate broadband service. 
They chose the most expensive option for their future vision, and then gave up 
if that wasn't going to be financially viable. I think they basically quit at 
20% coverage only.

The article does point out that Verizon is more interested in wireless, but as 
we've discussed before, this type of wireless-for-mobile is not a reasonable 
substitute for the cabled variety of broadband, for pricing reasons. In 
principle, some form of perhaps fixed-service-only wireless, priced more like 
cabled broadband, could be a winner.

Why not pursue that option?

In my view, the idea of tying fixed-service-broadband to an archaic MVPD model 
from decades past, as the article claims Verizon does, just does not make a lot 
of sense. This is the Internet era, not the walled garden cable TV era. 
Technology changes, so business models have to as well.
