Wake up Bert. This entire thread is about the fact that FIOS is not a good idea
for Verizon in many markets. The article points out several concerns:
1. High labor costs that drive up the price of a build-out.
2. Pressure on revenues from MVPD service, which is a critical factor in making
FIOS deployments economically viable.
3. Potential rate regulation on broadband that could limit future returns on
investment.
Obviously the potential return on FIOS deployments is questionable, except
perhaps in areas with higher incomes and a high number of homes passed. The
number of competitors may also be a factor.
Obviously they did not have the power to force people to
subscribe to FIOS services.
But they do have the power to drop you as a customer. We've been over this
too many times, Craig. Why do I have to repeat myself?
Too bad for you Bert. They have no obligation to continue offering a marginal
service. They are not trying to drop you, they are trying to get you to upgrade
to a more capable service.
What is inferior is your DSL service.
AT&T keeps upgrading its DSL. Verizon does not. Combine refusal to keep DSL
up to date, and giving up expanding the very expensive FiOS service, and you
get the picture. Lack of interest. Like I said, the effect is to reduce the
number of viable competitors in wired broadband service. Verizon would rather
I went to Cox cable than upgrade DSL.
Sorry, but you are wrong AGAIN. Verizon has decided to stop upgrading DSL where
they have deployed FIOS. This makes good sense as FIOS is competitive with
cable broadband while DSL is not. In markets where Verizon has not deployed
FIOS they continue to upgrade the DSL service.
I've explained all of this, and why I don't much like FiOS, very many times
already.
Really. What us wrong with FIOS broadband?
The only answer that make sense is you choose NOT to pay for a more capable
broadband service, just as you choose NOT to pay for a MVPD service.
Enjoy!
Regards
Craig
