At a recent DoD symposium, I sat through a presentation with many charts and figures that showed that IPv4 and IPv6 over satellite links operated with equal efficiency.

The only amazing thing about this was all the head nodders in the audience. The presenter had already explained how these links used MPEG-2 TS, so clearly, the IPv4 or IPv6 payload was of absolutely no consequence *to the satellite link*. The only elements impacted would have been the ground-based routers he used in his test, and that aspect had already been covered in other presentations.

These folks were there to support the rapid transition to IPv6. For whatever set of reasons, they felt it importrant to use specious arguments in the quest. This is but one of many examples.

If my sponsor had asked for a presentation on the effect of IPv6 on satellite links, my response would have been to sit down with him and explain why it was not an issue. Rather than responding with "what I thought he wanted to hear."

Again, this is just one rather egregious example.
