Talk about years...I am in the process of 'recounting' the 20 (yes, 20!) years that I have been involved with the very IDEA of Broadcasters being able to "do" HDTV. My first ACATS involvement (yes...the first of too many DC meetings) was in 1987. Much has happened over that time. Much has not happened as well. We are where we are. Let us all make tomorrow a better day :-)
Markthe one that once was awed by the idea of being invited to Washington, DC to help shape the future...and occasionally still is ;-)

Pax.I know, I should be more careful when I label someone as a zealot, before looking in the mirror. However, the one aspect of this long discussion, which I simply can not comprehend, is the notion that the eight years lost awaiting the development of workable VSB receivers is of little consequence to the OTA industry. Eight years, in this age of technology, is a lifetime. Over thirty years ago, when development moved at a relative snails pace, eight years spanned a period between eight-track tape and the announcement of CDs. For broadcasters to be saddled with such a handicap awaiting the benefits of ATSC, when something else is available - only slightly better or worse, depending upon whom one believes, can span an industries entire window of opportunity to maintain or establish it's relevance.-----Original Message----- From: opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Albert Manfredi Sent: Wednesday, January 17, 2007 5:36 PM To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [opendtv] Re: 200 Mile 8VSB Reception Dale Kelly wrote:Therefore, if 8-VSB receivers are updated and improved to the point where urban reception is good, e.g. in-Mark-Schubin's- apartment good, THEN we can finally stop obsessing over COFDM and instead concentrate on making things happen with what we've got.Bert, your like a dog with a bone, in your zeal to defend VSB you simply will not let go, even when the discussion has changed in your direction.Dale, that was directed to John Shutt, not you.
