That is simply not true. There are no Redhat trademarks in the gcc
package that RH distributes. X can just take the gcc package and
redistribute them WITHOUT making any modifications - just copy
/mnt/cdrom/gcc-*.rpm /var/ftproot, for example. Nothing else is
required of X. Ditto for all the other GPL'ed packages.

picking  proprietary contaminations RH has introduced?  That very
condition is onerous and clearly violates the GPL.  Further, supposing
RH trademarks are embedded into gcc binaries, that will totally
prevent X from redistributing the gcc binaries he has received from
RH.

This is your misconception. There are no Redhat trademarks embedded
into gcc binaries. If there were, then Redhat would be in violation of
the GPL.

I'm curious what your take on SuSE Enterprise Linux is.

I was using SuSE (7.0 Professional) for more than 5 years, and I would
rank it as the best distro I have used so far.  YaST did a wonderful
job of detecting devices, installing, configuring software. YaST was
plainly proprietary then, but now it is released under the GPL. The
SuSE box included one dvd with 1600 applications, and well written
documentation. I could say this much about SuSE.

That is nice. You trash one Enterprise distro, and praise the other -
I cannot see any difference between them in terms of pricing or
support :)

I really don't know what is so special about the "Enterprise" - I'll
update as soon as I get to it ;)

It is a matter of ISV support, IMO.
